Frequently Asked Questions

Questions you may be thinking to ask me...
  • When should I see a therapist?
If you are committed to making personal changes for greater life satisfaction, then you are ready to seek therapy. Many people believe that they need to be suffering from “mental illness” or serious “psychological problems” in order for therapy to be appropriate. This is not the case, anyone can benefit from therapy. Some even choose to come in for insight only.
  • How long does therapy take?
There is no specific time frame when working on personal development and growth. Depending on the type of changes that you are looking to make and the variety of issues that you are attempting to work on, therapy can last from a few sessions to much longer. Some find therapy to be extremely beneficial and choose to make it a long-term process.
  • Do you accept insurance?
Blooming Orchids Clinical Services accepts insurance and private pay. Many insurance policies offer partial reimbursement to see an out-of-network therapist; you may wish to consult with your insurance carrier regarding this benefit. We will be happy to provide you with an invoice that can be submitted to your carrier for reimbursement. Please refer to our Fees/Investment Page for more information.
  • What is Telehealth?
Telehealth is a secure web-cam service that lets the therapist and client(s) talk without being in the office setting. The service is confidential, as long as the client is in a secure and safe location.  Convenient Confidential No Commute Less time away Equitable Accessible Just as beneficial
  • What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept all forms of payment including cash, checks, and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, etc).
  • Do you prescribe medication?
I am not a psychiatrist and therefore I do not prescribe medication. However, in some cases medication can be valuable in combination with psychotherapy. If I determine that you could benefit from meeting with a psychiatrist, I can assist with referring you to someone in our trusted network of referrals.
  • What are the different psychotherapy formats?
Psychotherapy can take different formats depending on the style of the therapist and the needs of the patient. A few formats that you might encounter include: Individual therapy involves working one-on-one with a psychotherapist. Couples therapy involves working with a couple to help improve how the two function in their relationship. Family therapy centers on improving the dynamic within families and can include multiple individuals within a family unit. Group therapy involves a small group of individuals who share a common goal (This approach allows members of the group to offer and receive support from others, as well as practice new behaviors within a supportive and receptive group.)
  • What can I expect to achieve in therapy?
There are many benefits to engaging in therapy. Some of these include: gaining a better understanding of oneself, figuring out life goals and prospects, improving personal relationships, developing coping skills, enhancing problem-solving abilities, making positive changes to problem behaviors, and boosting self-esteem. Blooming Orchids Clinical Services will work with you throughout this process and offer new insight to an issue that you have been struggling with. The benefit that you obtain will ultimately depend on how committed you are to the treatment.
  • How does confidentiality work?
Confidentiality is one of the most important components in therapy. Successful therapy requires a high degree of trust. With few exceptions, the highly sensitive material that is discussed between you and me will not be shared with anyone else without your permission. With this in mind, keep in mind, I am legally mandated to make certain disclosures in cases where there is suspicion of harm to oneself, harm to others, or child abuse. All such disclosures will be discussed with you in advance. Basically, whatever you say in therapy, stays in therapy!  Harm to self or others. If I believe that you are in imminent danger of hurting yourself or someone else, a family member, police or ambulance will be called to ensure safety. A child under the age of 16 or older adult in care is in danger. In these cases Family and Children’s Services or the police will be called. Your files are subpoenaed by the court. A client experienced a health emergency during a session. In this case, medical staff would be provided only with necessary information. No information about why a client is in therapy will be shared. Blooming Orchids Clinical Services carries confidentiality into the community. I inform clients that if I see them in the community I will not say hello. I don’t want to put anyone in a situation where they have to explain how they know me. I am always open to speaking to clients outside of the office, but they get to make first contact.
  • What should I ask my insurance company?
Do I have mental/behavioral health insurance benefits? What is my deductible and has it been met? How many sessions per year does my insurance cover? Is approval required from my primary care physician?
  • What if I cannot afford the full fee?
For clients who cannot afford my full fee, we have a limited number of appointments available at a sliding scale. Our sliding scale is determined and decided on a case-by-case basis. Our sliding scale is based on financial needs, income and availability.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
Our cancellation policy requires a 48 hour notice of cancellation. Cancellation with less than 48 hours notice requires payment in full. If you are unable to attend your session in person, you can always do it via phone or video.
  • What should I expect the first time I see you?
During our first session, I will ask you to describe your current situation in detail. I will ask about how you are feeling stuck, what is causing your pain and what you hope to change by engaging in therapy. You can expect me to be inquisitive, thoughtful and respectful. I am interactive and will answer your questions. We will review my consent to treatment and privacy forms. Together we will develop the right treatment/method of working together.
